FOUNDED IN 1996, MICROCINEMA INTERNATIONAL is a leading international rights manager, exhibitor, and specialty markets distributor of the "moving image arts." Microcinema International specializes in the acquisition, exhibition, and distribution of independently produced works of an artistic and socially-relevant nature.

Our mission is to seek out, curate, exhibit, promote, and distribute compelling works to a broad audience via existing and emerging mediums. This mission is realized through exhibition-based events, web-based platforms, educational outreach, modern marketing techniques, and digital and physical distribution.

Through the Blackchair Collection and Microcinema International DVD, a unique and diverse catalogue of international DVD titles are distributed into retail, wholesale, online, and institutional sales channels worldwide. New delivery platforms such as mobile TV, video on demand, podcasting, and mobile telephony are also used to reach new audiences around the globe.

Patrick Kwiatkowski co-founded Blackchair Productions, LLC in 1996 and Microcinema, Inc in 2000. He has over 17 years of international sales, marketing, distribution, and business development expertise with private and Fortune 500 corporations. He received a MBA from the University of Chicago and an engineering degree from Michigan State University. Born in Michigan, Kwiatkowski has resided in numerous places including Akron, Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland, Paris, France and now Houston. Active in commercial and independent radio for 10 years prior to forming Microcinema, he created, produced, and hosted Ketchup and Marmalade, a 2-hour alternative music weekly in French, on radio OUI FM Paris, France as well as radio shows in Chicago and San Francisco. Joel S. Bachar founded Blackchair Productions in Seattle in 1992. Since 1996, Blackchair Productions has curated and promoted Independent Exposure; a monthly Microcinema screening that has programmed over 2000 short works to audiences in 45 countries plus Palestine and Antarctica. In January of 2000, Bachar and Patrick Kwiatkowski formed a new company, Microcinema International and in December of 2003, Microcinema International formed Microcinema DVD – a retail and wholesale distributor of international moving image arts on DVD, representing DVD titles of world renowned artists such as William Wegman, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Hopper, Bill Plympton, James Turrell, Bill Viola, John Cage, as well as many other animators and documentary filmmakers.
