Catching Out: A Film About Trainhopping and Living Free
A Film by Sarah George

"...exhilarating..." -Stephen Holden, New York Times
"An intriguing story that will leave one thinking about it
and even debating it for some time after the final credits."
- Phil Hall, Film Threat
Catching Out features several contemporary hobos who
dissent against mainstream American consumer culture
by traveling for free on freight trains. The film features a
seasoned Eco-activist named Lee, a young nomad named
Jessica, and a tramp couple known as Switch and Baby
Girl, as they navigate between the constraints of society
and the freedom of the road.

From the Ground Up by Su Friedrich
The Definitive Scoop on the Coffee Trade

With
few words and no polemics, From the Ground Up shows how an ordinary cup
of coffee occupies center stage in the world economy. Traveling with
the filmmaker from Guatemala to South Carolina to New York City and
seeing each phase of coffee production unfold-the growing, picking,
processing, distribution, brewing and selling-one comes to understand
that most products we use have passed through the hands, and lives, of
countless people in numerous countries.
From the Ground Up
uses minimal narration and text because it primarily asks the viewer to
observe and contemplate the chain of production, from a hillside in
Guatemala covered with hundreds of coffee seedlings to a pushcart in
Manhattan serving coffee to the early morning workers. And once in a
while, bits of the song
"Java Jive" underlie the image, with phrases
often being repeated to mimic the relentless and monotonous nature of
most coffee production work and to underscore the fact that this
"lovable" product comes at a price for the people who make it available
to us.

A Thing of Wonder: The Mind + Matter of
Jerry Andrus

Magician,
inventor and poet Jerry Andrus (1918-2007) has an insatiable appetite
for uncovering the mysteries of life on the boundary between reason and
illusion. Seen here wandering through his Albany, Oregon, "Castle of
Chaos," he demonstrates his incredible inventions (such as the
Tri-Zonal Space Warper), and waxes philosophic on the subjects of
reason, perception, God, and what he calls "the curse of contentment."
Reflecting not only his creative genius, but also his principled
lifestyle and profound involvement with the problems of human
existence, A THING OF WONDER pays tribute to a man devoted equally to
the science and magic of wonder.
